OOC: I know this site only has two members right now, but we might as well start to RP...
IC: Artemis's head snapped around as she heard a slight rustle in the bushes, but it was just a rust-colored squirrel. She extended her claws and dug them into the soft bark of a rotting tree and yawned, letting a slight roar escape, though it wasn't particularly loud. Her large eyes scanned the area, though all was silent.
The night was absolute. Most creatures were not out, and not even the branches of the trees stirred. She took a few silent steps forward, watching her large paws as they followed one another ahead. The night was the time that many creatures slept. The occasional owl was swooping through the trees, but they were silent and hardly made a sound. the night belonged to the predators, and Artemis was the perfect predator.
She didn't know where to look. The air was silent, but it seemed to vibrate with tension. She was looking for three mountain lions that commonly left the mountains to terrorize animals that they claimed had been in their territory, but all was still.
Artemis let a low growl escape her mouth, though she doubted there was anyone who would challenge her. She heard a sound behind her and turned smoothly and silently, as graceful and powerful as liquid metal. "Who's there?" She snarled.

OOC- Sorry it took so long to reply. I was at my friends trailer for the weekend.
IC- Akul stepped quietly through the forest, trying not to make a sound. He didnt want to startle or scare anything that was awake in the night. Everyone in his kingdom was asleep, leaving an eerie silence hanging in the air. Most of the time there was at least one animal out and about.
He couldnt sleep. The past few nights he had heard whispers throughout the forest about a silent shadow stalking and killing young cubs during the night. He tried to deny it but more and more cubs died so Akul had decided that something needed to be done.
He was vulnerable in the dark, not having the night vision of felines or owls. Anything could get him now. He jumped as a ferret scurried over the path, running from a swooping owl.
Akul entered a small clearing and tried to make sense of his surroundings. He could make out only the treeline. He began to walk forwards but stopped. A the moon drifted out from behind a whisp of cloud.
Light flooded into the night, allowing Akul to see better than before, although the trees still blocked some of the light. He surveyed the clearing and his eyes stopped dead when he saw a figure ahead of him, turned the other way. A tiger.
He tried to back away slowly without making a sound but his claws scraped against a rotting log on the ground.
The tiger turned around and searched for him. "Whos there" it growled. She was a woman, Akul could tell by the voice.
He stepped forwards deciding that running would surely result in death.
"You stand in the prescence of the king of Canines tiger. I am Akul, the wolf that killed your king not long ago in the last great war to sweep the land. Who might you be?"

Artemis bared her teeth. "I am not like most tigers. My family is dead, and I do not know of any kin in the forest. There are the tigers with orange fur, and those with fur whiter than snow. I am not either of those, and I do not follow a king, nor any leader. I am commanded only by myself." She took a slinking step closer to the wolf, Akul as he had called himself.
"My name is Artemis, if you must know." When she examined the wolf she knew he couldn't see well in the darkness and knew that the chance he would attack her was slim, for she was a creature of the night, built for this type of situation, and she had the upper hand.

Akul backed away as the tiger stepped closer. She seemed to be telling the truth but he didnt know how well felines could act and decieve. If she attacked Akuls only hope would be to run and hope some other canines would come to his aid.
She was bigger than him. A lot bigger. He knew that even if he ran she would catch him in a heartbeat. He decided that the only way he was going to survive was to talk his way through it, doubting that the tiger would be intimidated by him no matter what he did.
"So you mean me no harm?" he asked, straining his eyes to try and see if she was moving. "My parents are also dead. They died in the great war when I became king."

She circled around Akul slowly, as if he was prey. "My parents were killed brutally over a small piece of territory," Artemis said softly. "I have no intention of harming you, But that does not mean I am a pacifist. Do you know of a lion by the name of Kayo?" The faint moonlight illuminated the white streaks of fur above her eyes, causing her to look like her eyes were larger than they were. Somewhere in the forest, a rustle of leaves was heard, followed by the screech of an owl and the squeal of a mouse. Predator and prey, Artemis thought to herself. I am no longer the prey.

"I dont know the names of any lions, I'm afraid," Akul said slowly trying to remember if he had ever had a conversation with a lion before. This was in fact, his first non-hostile conversation with a feline. "There have, however, been rumors of a shadow in the forests that can see in the night and move faster than any canine. One who saw it in the moonlight says it was a lion. Could this be the one you are looking for?"
Akul allowed his muscles to relax. He believed the tiger when she said she meant him no harm. He just hoped she wasnt acting.
The moon passed behind another cloud and shrouded the forest in total darkness for Akul for a minuite. It re-emerged and akul thought he saw something move behind Artemis but it may have been a trick of the light.

Artemis watched Akul closely as the moonlight was smothered by a cloud. She knew Akul would be close to blind in this darkness and that if he was planning an ambush of any sort it was quite a fool thing to do. Yet when she saw the wolf's eyes dart around the bushes behind me she said, "Planning an ambush, are you?"
She turned but there was nothing but the wind rustling the bushes. Artemis felt a bit of fear grab the pit of her stomach. The wind was going in the wrong direction, so whatever it was, she couldn't smell it. She darted up a tree quickly and surveyed the area quickly.
"Show yourself," Artemis demanded, completely ignoring Akul down below her. There was a slight shift in the wind and she caught a scent. It was feline, but it was also female. It was slightly familiar, but she had never known any lionesses.
Artemis roared loudly. "I know you're there. Show yourself!"
A slinking figure emerged from the bushes. It was unmistakably a lioness. The second she was in range, Artemis abandoned her perch and tackled the lioness from the ground.
The lioness did not resist for a moment, her eyes scanning the area. Her gaze caught Akul and she grinned, baring her teeth dreadfully. "A canine," She snarled. "And the one who killed your king as well. Are you a traitor to your own race?"
Artemis slapped her with the back of her paw and she smiled. Before Artemis could react, she had knocked her away and was bounding toward Akul with every intention of attacking.

Akul heard two felines talking in the dark where he couldnt see them. He heard mention of himself and smiled. But not for long.
He saw something black dart from the bushes, bounding towards him, and in the slim ray of light he saw the glint of silver fangs. She jumped at him and at the last second he threw himself onto the fround and the lioness soared over him.
He jumped up and started for the other edge of the clearing as fast as he could, trying to escape the lioness. He felt a sharp stab of pain and vried out as two sets of claws buried themselves in his haunches.
He could only hope a canine had heard his cry and would come to his aid. He shook her off and tok off in the dark towards the mountains in the distance. He didnt know if the lions believed in the legend of the rock that was his throne but he could only hope that they were as afraid of it as the canines used to be.

An ordinary tiger would have simply watched as the canine was mauled, but Artmis was not an ordinary tiger. The moment the lioness attacked Artemis roared as loudly as her vocal cords would allow and charged forward. The lioness was not the one she had been looking for, but she was certainly an enemy.
Artemis bounded forward and minimized the distance between tham in an instant, tackling her to the ground roughly. All signs of the lioness's bravado was gone, only pure hatred remained. "You are a traitor," She spat and smacked Artemis with her claws extended. She roared in agony and charged as fast as she could, circling around her and headbutting her flank. "Run!" She cried to Akul.

Akul didnt need telling twice. He took off in the direction of the mountains in the distance. He could hear the two felines struggling behind him.
He kept running, never looking back or slowing down even the slightest bit. Several other dark shapes appeared beside him in the bushes. He caught a glimpse of one that was slightly ahead of him. Canines he thought to himself, there's gonna be rewards for these ones.
There were three of them, circling around him to protect him from the feline that was persuing him. He decided it was safe to take a look back now and let out a yelp of surprise. The lioness was bounding towards him.
He stopped running and spun around, sliding in the dirt until he was facing the lioness. His guard had also turned around and formed a protective wall between him and the enemy.
She sped towards them and cleared the wall in a single leap and fell on top of Akul. He turned over and threw her off of him as his guard raced past to kill her. She easily dispatched two of them but the third landed a blow to her temple, stunning her.
He moved in for the kill but even stunned he was no match foe her. She stepped over his lifeless body towards Akul with a hungry look in her eyes. Akul spread his fet and prepared for what might be his final fight.

Artemis graoned and sat back on her haunches for only a brief moment before she propelled herself forward on powerful hind legs, shooting forward with every last bit of speed. There was no reason that the wolf's life was worth much to her, as he had not helped her in any way, but there was something about that lioness.
Apia lowered her head and rammed the animal in the flank, knocking it to the side, away from the wolves that had gethered. With a swift, fluid motion, she batted the already stunned feline to the ground and pinned her.
"Who is the leader of your pride?" Artemis demanded harshly, glaring at her angrily. "From where do you come?"
"That," The lioness gasped, "Is something that you do not need to know."
"So for all I know, you could be a traitor to the felines," Artemis said, only to be countered with a sharp: "And you aren't?"
Artemis raised her head and looked to Akul for help, though she didn't really know how he could help her.
